Taiwan Partnered with US and Philippines to Promote Environmentally Sound Management of Electronic Waste
Date: October 1, 2018
The Taiwan Environmental Protection Administration partnered with US Environmental Protection Agency to sponsor the 2018 International E-Waste Management Network Workshop in Manila from September 24 to 28. The event, hosted by Philippines’ Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), invited participants from over 17 countries to discuss about policies, new technologies and best practices for e-waste management. The first day of the workshop was dedicated to the Philippines and designated as Philippines’ Day, which focused entirely on e-waste situation in the Philippines. One of the key themes this year was the involvement of the industry and private sector in order to complete circular economy of e-waste. The participants also visited Semirecycling Co., Inc, a local precious metal recycling plant, to learn about its e-waste recycling program and worker’s health and safety practices.
Through the workshop, participants were able to learn how to build capacity of government officials to develop and implement comprehensive program for the collection, recycling, and reuse of e-waste, and identify effective ways to establish relationships with industry and private sector.
