Kids Making Sense – Understanding Air Quality and Raising Environmental Awareness

Date: September 17, 2018

The 2018 Kids Making Sense workshop was held in Taoyuan City at Taoyuan Municipal Wu-Ling Senior High School on September 14, 2018.  It’s a collaboration program between the Taiwan EPA and US EPA with an exciting environmental education curriculum that teaches students about air quality and how to measure air pollution using hand-held sensors and mobile phones. The program is designed to empower students to make positive changes in their communities.

This year, the Taiwan EPA invited Mr. Kyle Tsukahira of the Asia Pacific Islander Forward Movement (APIFM) to come to Taiwan and lead the students and teachers at Taoyuan Municipal Wu-Ling Senior High School in performing simple air quality monitoring with a portable measuring apparatus around their school. Afterwards, the data from their monitoring was shared on a public data platform. The program aims to raise awareness in air quality, understand the sources of pollution, and think about how to improve the environment.
