U.S. lauds Taiwan-launched environmental initiative
A Taiwan-launched environmental initiative is a major program that has enabled countries to cooperate in environmental protection and exchange experiences, Jane Nishida, U.S. principal deputy assistant administrator for Environmental Protection Administration’s Office of International and Tribal Affairs, said Monday.
Speaking at the first conference of the International Environmental Partnership (IEP) in Washington, Nishida expressed the hope that the initiative will make a visible difference in the world community.
The launch of the initiative was witnessed by President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) and visiting U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy when the latter visited Taiwan in April 2014.
The United States was the first to join the IEP, and so far, 28 countries have joined the initiative since its launch.
